Indiana Jones’ upcoming Disney ride will showcase a robotic Harrison Ford.

Disney Imagineers recently revealed the Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent attraction for Animal Kingdom at D23, and it’s generating quite a buzz. The standout feature of this ride is the introduction of an Indiana Jones animatronic modeled after Harrison Ford, marking a first for the franchise.

For fans of sci-fi classics like Blade Runner, the idea of a lifelike replicant of Harrison Ford might feel a bit uncanny. However, Disney presented this as a thrilling highlight of the D23 event, especially since Ford has never allowed his likeness to be used in any Indiana Jones attractions at Disney parks before. He even recorded a brief video to confirm his participation, which premiered during the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress panel on August 14.

The panel also shared more details about the upcoming Animal Kingdom attraction, officially titled Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. The ride will take guests on an adventure with Indy as he navigates the ruins of an ancient Maya temple, guarded by Tsukán, the Jade Serpent. Riders will find themselves drawn into the underworld, culminating in an exhilarating escape. Disney collaborated with experts in Maya archaeology and anthropology to ensure an authentic representation of the culture.

The announcement was carefully worded, indicating that Harrison Ford will serve as the model for the Indy animatronic, but it remains unclear if he will also provide the character’s voice. It would be surprising if Indy didn’t have any dialogue during the ride. If Ford doesn’t reprise his role beyond the animatronic, it would be great if Disney considers bringing in someone like Troy Baker, who delivered an impressive impression in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

As for the opening date of Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, that information is still under wraps. This attraction will be part of the Tropical Americas expansion at Animal Kingdom, which will also include a ride inspired by Encanto and the El Carrusel de los Animalitos carousel featuring beloved Disney and Pixar characters.
