Insomniac Games has stated that the likelihood of Peter Parker swinging onto Xbox consoles is slim, despite previously making similar claims about a PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man.
In response to a now-deleted tweet from a fan requesting an Xbox version of the open-world superhero game, Insomniac simply noted that a port is “not likely.” Marvel’s Spider-Man originally launched as a PS4 exclusive in 2018 and has since been remastered for PC and PS5.
This isn’t surprising, considering Marvel’s Spider-Man is primarily a PlayStation Studios title designed to drive console sales for Sony.
However, the door isn’t completely shut on the idea of an Xbox port. Remember, Insomniac once firmly stated nearly nine years ago that the game would “never appear on Xbox or PC” as it was a “permanent PS4 exclusive published by Sony Interactive Entertainment,” a statement that hasn’t aged particularly well.
Additionally, some Sony-owned titles have made their way to other platforms in recent years, like Helldivers 2 and the upcoming Marathon on Xbox Series X|S, which would have seemed impossible a generation ago. PlayStation appears more open to sharing its multiplayer experiences with its biggest rival than its single-player hits.
For now, Insomniac is focused on expanding its superhero universe with Marvel’s Wolverine, set to release later this year, which promises to be a “darker and more brutal” experience than fans might expect from the studio, given the character’s rage-fueled nature.
Marvel’s Spider-Man has also seen the emergence of its first working multiplayer mod, which is likely the closest we’ll get to Insomniac’s previously canceled Great Web project.
