Insomniac has seemingly dashed hopes for Marvel’s Wolverine to make an appearance in this week’s State of Play, stating that we won’t hear anything about the game until spring 2026.

Marvel’s Wolverine is shaping up to be PlayStation’s flagship title for 2026. While there’s also Marathon, Sony’s multiplayer history suggests it might not stick around for long. After a brief teaser in 2021, we finally got a full, action-packed reveal last September, promising a 2026 release. With the absence of news at The Game Awards, all eyes are on this week’s PlayStation State of Play to see if Wolverine will make a comeback. However, it seems he’ll be keeping a low profile a bit longer.

Last night, almost as if to set the stage for the showcase, Insomniac shared a gif of Logan using his claws (which seemed to be doing just fine without any extra stabbing). When a fan asked, “WHEN MORE INFO?” Insomniac broke many hearts with a straightforward reply: “Spring 2026.”

Spring 2026. February 10, 2026.

Wolverine hails from Canada, standing as one of the nation’s most iconic figures alongside Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart. According to the Canadian government, spring officially begins on March 20th at 2:45 PM UTC (which translates to 9:45 AM ET | 6:45 AM PT). So, if Sony announces a showcase on March 20th at 2 PM UTC, you can bet Wolverine will be the grand finale. Alternatively, we might see a dedicated Wolverine State of Play, similar to what Sony did for Ghost of Tsushima last year.

I often think it’s wise to heed developers when they say, “Hey, don’t expect news in this showcase” (unless we’re talking about the Resident Evil team during a showcase). But it’s not like they’d spoil the surprise. Plus, being Scottish, I know the Celtic calendar marks spring as starting in February, so maybe there’s hope for those of us with Celtic roots. Or perhaps I’m just getting my hopes up for something that’s unlikely to happen.

With Wolverine set to redefine superhero gaming in 2026, here are four features I’m eager to see and four I hope to avoid.
