Insta360 Upgrades Face-Tracking Webcams with Larger Sensors and Higher Price Tags

Insta360 has unveiled upgraded Pro versions of its Link 2 and Link 2C webcams, which originally launched in September 2024. Like their predecessors, the new Link 2 Pro and 2C Pro are designed to track the movements of on-screen subjects, ensuring they remain in focus—perfect for streamers or presenters who need to move around without the expense of a camera operator. These models now boast larger 1/1.3-inch sensors paired with 24-millimeter equivalent f1.9 lenses, enhancing their performance in low-light or variable lighting situations.

Both webcams are now available globally through Insta360’s online store, priced slightly higher than the original models, which were $199 for the Link 2 and $149 for the Link 2C. The Link 2 Pro, equipped with a two-axis mechanical gimbal for subject tracking, retails for $249.99, while the Link 2C Pro, which relies on software for tracking, is priced at $199.99.

Previously, all versions of Insta360’s Link webcams utilized half-inch sensors, but the company claims that the new 1/1.3-inch sensors provide significant improvements in low-light performance, resulting in cleaner, brighter, and more detailed video across various lighting conditions. While we haven’t tested these claims yet, larger sensors generally indicate a positive upgrade. Video resolutions remain unchanged, with both the Link 2 Pro and Link 2C Pro supporting up to 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps.

Insta360 also highlights that both webcams come with their most advanced audio system yet, featuring two microphones—one directional and one omnidirectional—along with AI-driven noise cancellation. Users can select from four audio pickup modes: a standard option with active noise cancellation, a natural mode with audio processing turned off, a setting tailored for groups, and a mode that isolates an individual in noisy environments.

Continuing features include hand gesture controls for tracking and framing adjustments, background blurring, green screen replacement, and a whiteboard mode that maintains focus on a large board filled with notes. Additionally, Insta360 is rolling out support for the Elgato Stream Deck, allowing users to tweak settings like exposure and white balance with ease, activate AI features quickly, or manage multiple Link webcams at once. This Stream Deck support will also extend to the original Link 2 and Link 2C models.
