iOS 27 May Allow Users to Choose Their Preferred AI Model

The upcoming update to Apple’s operating systems is set to give users the ability to select their preferred AI model for Apple Intelligence. Reports indicate that Apple plans to integrate third-party chatbots into its AI features across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, all slated for release this fall. This means that alongside Siri, compatible third-party AI models, referred to as “Extensions,” will also be able to enhance other Apple Intelligence functionalities like Writing Tools and Image Playground.

Additionally, users will have the option to choose different Siri voices for various AI models. For instance, responses from one of Apple’s AI models could feature one voice, while a version of Siri powered by ChatGPT might utilize a different voice.

Users will be able to select from AI model providers that participate by adding support through their App Store applications. Once a compatible AI app is installed, it can be set as the preferred AI in the Settings app. Reports suggest that Apple is already testing integrations with AI models from Google and Anthropic. While Google’s models are expected to play a significant role in the upcoming Siri overhaul, ChatGPT has been the only third-party AI model integrated into Apple Intelligence so far, but that may soon change.
