iPhone Handoff Enables Effortless Number Sharing Between Two Devices
When iOS 27 drops later this month, it will introduce a feature called iPhone Handoff, allowing users to seamlessly switch between two phones using the same number. This was briefly touched upon during the WWDC keynote in June, but details were scarce at the time. Now, a demo clip has surfaced showcasing how to set up this feature within Xcode 27’s Device Hub. It enables users to pair two iPhones, designating one as the primary device and the other as a “companion.”
Launching this feature is timely, especially with the anticipated release of the foldable iPhone Ultra just around the corner. Not everyone wants to lug around a bulky and pricey device all the time. Handoff provides a convenient way to switch to a more compact and budget-friendly option — like that old cracked iPhone 13 you’ve been holding onto.
However, keep in mind that this feature will require carrier support. Code references to T-Mobile US and Telekom.de have been discovered, but it’s unclear what other carriers will offer support.
