Iron Lung Set for Digital Launch on Its Ideal Platform

Iron Lung, the film adaptation of a horror video game by Markiplier, is set to make its digital debut on YouTube before the end of May. The release is scheduled for May 31, as revealed by Mark Fischbach, known as Markiplier, during a panel at the Cannes Film Festival. He expressed his loyalty to YouTube as the reason for the exclusive release on the platform.

Unlike his usual free content, this film will be available for purchase on YouTube’s Movies & TV section. While the exact price hasn’t been disclosed, new releases typically range from $19.99 to $29.99. Additionally, Iron Lung will see a physical release, though details on that front remain sparse since its initial announcement in February.

The film is based on a short horror game created by David Szymanski, the developer behind Dusk, which launched in 2022. Players navigate a submarine piloted by a convict trapped in a blood ocean on an alien moon, facing increasingly disturbing events. The movie stays true to this concept, with Markiplier portraying the lead character, Simon, while also taking on directing, writing, and funding responsibilities.

After its theatrical release on January 30, Iron Lung surprised many by grossing over $50 million against a budget of approximately $3 to $4 million. While films made by YouTubers often have mixed results, Iron Lung has garnered positive reviews from both critics and audiences. It was noted for its “claustrophobic” and “immersive” qualities, prompting discussions about its success within the broader film industry.

For those who missed Iron Lung in theaters, the opportunity to watch it on YouTube will arrive on May 31. Markiplier has also hinted at future projects, mentioning plans to start “working on something” in 2027.
