The future of Severance is shrouded in mystery, and the latest update from the Apple TV hit doesn’t seem too promising. Apple has acquired the rights to Severance from studio Fifth Season. While the transfer of IP might seem dull, discussions about Severance’s future plans could spark your interest. Reports indicate that Severance is set to run for ‘at least’ four seasons, though a fifth season seems unlikely at this point. What’s intriguing (or concerning, depending on your viewpoint) is the potential for expanding the Severance universe. Creators Dan Erickson and executive producer/director Ben Stiller are reportedly considering prequels, spin-offs, and international adaptations. Mystery box shows can be tricky to maintain at a high level—just look at Lost. However, the idea of exploring prequels and spin-offs that delve deeper into Lumon could undermine what makes Severance so captivating. If every mystery is unraveled, what keeps viewers coming back? Subtle hints about characters like Cobel enrich the narrative without revealing everything. Bringing you the latest movie news, features, and reviews directly to your inbox Despite this, Erickson and Stiller have a solid track record, so there may be a hidden gem in their franchise expansion plans. In the near future, production for Severance season 3 is set to begin this summer. After the lengthy wait between seasons 1 and 2, which stalled the story’s momentum, there’s renewed hope that we could return to the enigmatic halls of Lumon by the end of 2027.
