Is Marvel’s Wonder Man hinting at a key aspect of the X-Men’s future?
With the recent drop of the Wonder Man trailer, Marvel Studios has started sharing intriguing images across their social media, hinting at the significance of superpowers in the upcoming series. While it’s a given for a franchise centered around superhumans, the trailers have been careful to keep Simon Williams’ (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) abilities under wraps until now, and the reason is becoming clearer.
The new trailer showcases some of Williams’ impressive powers, which he’s currently sidelining in pursuit of a Hollywood career. However, it seems that Damage Control is intent on monitoring and restricting anyone with enhanced abilities, complicating Simon’s journey. The Marvel Studios X account has drawn attention to this with close-ups of newspapers and trade magazines reporting that cast and crew must adhere to a “Doorman” policy, confirming they are merely skilled actors without any extraordinary advantages.

For those unfamiliar, the Doorman policy might seem trivial, but it’s important to note that Doorman is actually a teleporting superhero who was part of the West Coast Avengers, set to be portrayed by Byron Bowers in the show. His powers were no mere coincidence; DeMarr Davis, aka Doorman, is a mutant, much like Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and the upcoming X-Men, who are expected to join the MCU soon.
Given this context, it’s likely that the series will rework Simon Williams’ origin story, similar to how Ms. Marvel’s was adapted, potentially making him a mutant instead of a creation of Baron Zemo (played by Daniel Brühl in the MCU). This could serve as a clever explanation for Williams’ long absence from the Marvel Cinematic Universe while also paving the way for the introduction of more Children of the Atom in the future.
Additionally, we can expect to see some mutants from an alternate reality when Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and other classic X-Men team up against Victor Von Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) in Avengers: Doomsday, hitting theaters on December 18, 2026.
