It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 Will Showcase Younger Versions of Returning Characters

It: Welcome to Derry season 1 may have wrapped up, but there’s a three-season roadmap ahead for the series, even though season 2 is still awaiting confirmation.

Creator Andy Muschietti has kept details under wraps, but he did share some intriguing hints about what’s next for the HBO hit. “We can only say the stuff that’s already known, like it’s in 1935, 27 years before season 1, and it involves the massacre of the Bradley Gang from the books,” Muschietti mentioned. “It takes place during the Depression in Derry, and there are some new characters along with younger versions of some characters from this season.”

In Stephen King’s lore, the Bradley Gang Massacre is a violent shootout that engulfs the entire town of Derry. This event was briefly referenced in season 1 when an old car containing victims was discovered. It also appears in Muschietti’s films, notably in a mural that the Losers’ Club stands before while tending to Ben Hanscom in the first movie, and which makes a fleeting appearance in the sequel.

What’s particularly exciting is Muschietti’s confirmation that season 2 will showcase younger versions of some characters from season 1. This likely includes Rose, who has expertise on Pennywise the Dancing Clown (a.k.a. IT) and its vulnerabilities. We might also see the parents of some new (or perhaps old?) members of the Losers’ Club, especially since we now know that Marge will eventually become Margaret Tozier, Richie Tozier’s mother. The full roster of returning characters remains to be seen.

While season 3 hasn’t been officially confirmed, it is set to take place in 1908—27 years prior to 1935—and will center around the Kitchener Ironworks explosion, a tragic event that occurred during an Easter egg hunt, claiming the lives of 102 people, including 88 children. This incident was also hinted at in season 1 when Dick Hallorann encounters the body of a headless child during the catastrophic Black Spot fire.

As for It: Welcome to Derry, without a confirmation for season 2, there’s no release date yet, but the creators have expressed a desire to bring it to fans sooner rather than later.
