James Bond’s Switch 2 Release Faces Delay
007 First Light is the upcoming James Bond game from IO Interactive, known for their work on the Hitman series. It was prominently featured during the Nintendo Direct event that unveiled the original Switch 2, but now it won’t launch on that platform simultaneously with other consoles due to a last-minute delay.
IO Interactive announced that “007 First Light” will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on May 27, 2026, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version set to arrive later this summer. The team expressed their excitement for players to explore James Bond’s reimagined origin story and their commitment to delivering the best gaming experience across all platforms.
This announcement follows an online leak suggesting that the Switch 2 version had been indefinitely delayed. IO Interactive has not yet commented on the reasons behind the timing issues for the Nintendo release.
While “later this summer” may not seem like a long wait for Switch 2 fans, “007 First Light” isn’t the only title facing porting challenges. “Borderlands 4” was also slated for a Switch 2 release last fall but encountered a last-minute delay. After a period of silence, Gearbox Entertainment confirmed that development on the port has been indefinitely suspended, leaving many questions unanswered.
Additionally, FromSoftware’s “Elden Ring,” one of the first titles announced for Switch 2, is still absent. A playable version was showcased at Gamescom 2025 but was in rough condition. Recent hands-on reports indicate that the open-world RPG is now performing better on Nintendo’s next-gen console, yet it still lacks a definitive release date, hinting that the transition to the Switch 2 may be more complex than some developers anticipated.
