James Cameron provides detailed guidelines for theaters on presenting Avatar: Fire and Ash, complete with a chart for audio and framing specifications.

James Cameron has issued clear guidelines for theaters screening Avatar: Fire and Ash in a letter personally signed by him.

In the note addressed to “Dear Theater Technician,” Cameron emphasizes the importance of proper setup for the film. He mentions a Projection Specification file and framing chart included with the Digital Cinema Package (DCP), which contains essential details about light levels, audio settings, and framing. “Please review it and ensure your picture and sound systems are calibrated and ready,” he instructs. “I mixed the film with care to ensure it plays flawlessly, balancing quiet dialogue with intense action at the reference standard of 7.0—please don’t set it lower!”

“You are the final, yet crucial, part of our team in shaping how audiences experience AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH,” he concludes. “Thank you for your commitment!”

Fire and Ash serves as the sequel to 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, featuring Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) confronting a new menace: the Magkwan and their ruthless leader Varang (Oona Chaplin), who has allied with Jake’s adversary, Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang).

While some technical aspects of the franchise, like the high frame rate, have faced criticism, Cameron recently responded directly, stating, “I think $2.3 billion says you might be wrong on that. Well, that’s the argument from authority. But the argument from artistic is: I happen to like it, and it’s my movie.”

Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to hit theaters on December 19. In the meantime, consider planning your watchlist for 2026 with the latest updates on upcoming movie release dates.
