James Gunn Addresses Misinformation Surrounding Batman: Brave and the Bold

DC’s co-head James Gunn has once again had to address the swirling rumors, this time regarding the upcoming Batman film in the DCU Chapter One, titled The Brave and the Bold.

“The universe is rife with incorrect information about The Brave and the Bold on every level,” Gunn stated on Instagram Threads. This comment came in response to a fan’s inquiry about the possibility of filming starting in 2027 if the script were completed, despite other reports suggesting production wouldn’t kick off until 2028 or even 2029.

From this, it seems neither timeline is accurate, and we likely won’t know when production officially begins until Gunn makes an announcement. In the meantime, he has plenty on his plate, with Supergirl and Lanterns set to debut this year, along with projects like Clayface and a Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, also in development. Plus, there are additional spin-off shows and films on the horizon.

However, progress is being made on The Brave and the Bold. The film has secured its director, Andy Muschietti, known for IT: Welcome to Derry, while Christina Hodson, who penned The Flash, is set to write the script. Hodson’s involvement has sparked some backlash, as fans express concern over the choice of a writer associated with a recent box office disappointment. In the same thread, Gunn defended Hodson, stating, “I don’t think you can judge my writing based on films others directed, as massive liberties are sometimes taken.”

Currently, details about The Brave and the Bold remain sparse, but we do know it will center on Batman and his son, Damian Wayne, as Robin. No casting announcements have been made yet, meaning the search for the new Caped Crusader is still ongoing. Importantly, this film will not feature Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman and will be entirely separate from Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2.

As of now, The Brave and the Bold does not have a release date.
