James Gunn clarifies that the Dynamic Duo animated film will not be integrated into the DC Universe.

James Gunn has shared two updates regarding the animated film Dynamic Duo, clarifying that it will not be part of the DC Universe.

When a fan inquired about the film’s progress on Threads, Gunn responded positively, saying it was going “really, really well.” However, he quickly dismissed rumors that the movie was being rewritten to fit into the DCU, simply replying, “Nope.”

Directed by Arthur Mintz from a script by Matthew Aldrich, known for his work on Coco, Dynamic Duo is being produced by Gunn and Matt Reeves, the director of The Batman. There’s no indication that this film will connect to the Batman universe.

Initially announced in 2024, Gunn described Dynamic Duo as “a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI.” The story will focus on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, both of whom have taken on the role of Robin in the comics, exploring their youthful relationship. This will mark the first animated feature released by DC Studios during Gunn’s leadership.

On the cinematic front, Supergirl is set to be the next DC Studios film hitting theaters this June. Meanwhile, Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel, The Batman 2, is scheduled for release on October 1, 2027.

Additionally, a live-action DCU Batman film titled The Brave and the Bold is in development, but fans will have to wait longer for that one.

Dynamic Duo is currently slated for release on June 30, 2028.
