Jason Momoa Rocks as Lobo in Latest Supergirl Clip
No matter your thoughts on Zack Snyder’s vision for the DC universe, it’s hard to deny that Jason Momoa’s Aquaman was a standout highlight of those films. Fortunately, while Aquaman may be taking a backseat, Momoa is back in action as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe. We got a brief glimpse of him in the first Supergirl trailer, and now a new teaser—reminiscent of a Super Bowl spot—shows Lobo ready to take center stage. Momoa seems to embody Lobo just as perfectly as he did Aquaman, sparking curiosity about what other DC characters he could bring to life (could he be the next Booster Gold?).
In the teaser, Lobo makes a dramatic entrance on his motorcycle, arriving just in time to save Supergirl (Milly Alcock), though she doesn’t seem thrilled about it. From what we can see, Lobo is loud, brash, and wields a massive hook while casually smoking through explosions—definitely not the safest behavior, but undeniably cool.
Momoa was first confirmed for the role of Lobo back in December 2024, after both fans and the actor expressed how well-suited he was for the character. Even during the promotion of 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, he was vocal about wanting to play Lobo in an interview.
“I collect comics, and while I don’t do it as much anymore, he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,'” Momoa shared. “If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a hell yes. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to spread any false news, but if they ever reach out to me for an audition, I’m all in.”
In a short video from the movie’s set, Momoa steps out of the makeup trailer, decked out in costume and puffing on a cigar. When asked how it felt to suit up as Lobo, he enthusiastically replied, “Finally.” After seeing him in action, we can’t help but agree.
The film’s synopsis suggests that we’ll see plenty of Momoa’s Lobo alongside Supergirl: “When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly teams up with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.” If that doesn’t sound like a buddy comedy in space featuring Supergirl and Lobo, we don’t know what does.
Supergirl is set to hit theaters on June 26.
