Join Friends for Free in Ghost of Yotei’s Exciting Online Coin-Flicking Spin-Off!
One of the standout features of Sucker Punch’s open-world samurai RPG, Ghost of Yotei, is the incredibly crafted coin-flicking mini-game that fans adored so much they wished for it to be spun off into its own title or mobile app. While that hasn’t happened yet, it will be part of Yotei’s online mode launching on Tuesday.
Ghost of Yotei Legends, the free multiplayer mode being added to last year’s PS5 exclusive, promises plenty of epic battles, raids, character classes, and all the elements you’d expect from an online action RPG. If you’ve played Ghost of Tsushima Legends, much of this will feel familiar. However, the exciting news is that Zeni Hajiki, the fantastic coin-flicking game from Yotei’s campaign, will be featured in the new mini-open-world lobby of the online mode, allowing players to finally challenge their friends.
“Ghost of Tsushima Legends’ lobby was a flat 2D menu,” said Legends lead designer Darren Bridges in an interview. “Our goal in designing this mode’s lobby was to create something engaging while you wait for friends to join. You can check out your completed feats and unlock cosmetics, tweak your build, and adjust your tech tree. Plus, the lobby includes some light PvP elements, like Zeni Hajiki, the coin-flicking game from the single-player campaign. We heard players wishing they could challenge friends to that (our QA team felt the same), so we made it happen!”
Zeni Hajiki has players flicking coins off a table using other coins, and it’s incredibly addictive. In fact, I’m currently holding off on playing it too much as I try to wrap up Ghost of Yotei. If I stopped at every inn and bar to play, I’d never finish the main game. But if I’m waiting for a friend to hop into Legends, what better way to pass the time than flicking coins? That’s my excuse, at least.
Another beloved feature from Ghost of Yotei making a return in Legends is the bamboo strike mini-game. Bridges mentioned there will even be a “mini leaderboard” for you and your friends to see who comes out on top.
“There’s a training area if you want to practice perfect parries in a low-pressure setting or test your build,” explained Bridges. “It’s designed to keep you engaged while you’re waiting or in between rounds, giving you interesting activities to enjoy.”
Ghost of Yotei Legends launches on March 10 for PS5 and is a free update for all players who own the main game.
