In recent news, Jujutsu Kaisen is set to lose one of its key creative talents, according to a recent leak.

Notable anime leaker Myamura has shared on Twitter that series director Shouta Goshozono, also known as Gosso, will depart from animation studio MAPPA following the conclusion of the first cour of the Culling Game arc in Jujutsu Kaisen season 3.

There appears to be no controversy surrounding his exit, as Goshozono is reportedly completing his work within the terms of his contract.

Sources suggest that he may be moving to the western studio Illumination, recognized for the Minions and The Super Mario Movie franchises. He will still contribute to the third season, albeit in a more detached ‘chief director’ capacity.

Goshozono’s departure could be a significant loss for Jujutsu Kaisen. While MAPPA consistently upholds a high standard of quality—avoiding pitfalls like those seen with One-Punch Man—the veteran director has directed 31 episodes and is known for his meticulous perfectionism and keen eye for action.

Currently, Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 is on a short hiatus, with a recap episode airing in place of a new installment this Thursday. Following that, the Culling Game arc—a complex battle royale set in Japan that required an entire episode for exposition—will resume until March 26.

In other anime news, season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is also taking a brief break this week. Additionally, a new Dragon Ball Super series has been announced, with a release window set for the fall.
