July 2026 Brings Major Open-World Titles and Classic PS2 Games to PS Plus

Summer is in full swing, and I can tell because I’ve been spending more time indoors to escape the sweltering heat. Luckily, this gives me the chance to dive into some exciting new additions to PS Plus this month, featuring a major Ubisoft open-world title, a firefighting simulator, and some quirky PS2 classics.

On July 15, PlayStation unveiled the latest lineup of PS Plus Extra and Premium games joining the subscription service’s extensive catalog.

The standout titles this month are *Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora* and *Rise of the Ronin*. While these two open-world games offer vastly different experiences, both promise countless hours of exploration and quests. I initially struggled with *Avatar* when it first came out, despite being a fan of James Cameron’s sci-fi universe. However, I’ve revisited it and found its stunning, immersive environments and gameplay reminiscent of *Far Cry*—minus the more frustrating elements of the recent entries—quite enjoyable.

On the classic front, I’m thrilled with the two PS2 titles selected for this month. *Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy* and *Indigo Prophecy* are both unique, shorter games that experiment with supernatural themes and mechanics. They may not be masterpieces, but they deliver the kind of distinctive experiences that are hard to come by on modern consoles.

To play these PlayStation games, you’ll need to be an active subscriber to the PS Plus Extra or Premium tiers, as the Essential tier doesn’t grant access to the game catalog. If your subscription lapses, you won’t be able to play these titles until you renew.

Keep in mind that not all of these games will be available right away. Check the dates below to plan your gaming sessions accordingly.
