Kaitlyn Dever reveals she’s gearing up for Season 3 of The Last of Us and believes fans will enjoy the new “shifting perspective.”

Kaitlyn Dever, known for her role in The Last of Us, has hinted at her expanded presence in the upcoming third season, revealing that her preparation begins in just a few days.

“I’m getting mentally and physically prepped right now. I go up in a couple days, actually, to start prep over there,” Dever shared. “I’m so excited to kind of take on a much bigger role in the season.”

The conclusion of season 2 shifted the focus from Bella Ramsey’s Ellie to Dever’s Abby, setting the stage for a deeper exploration of Abby’s narrative as the story revisits past events.

“I think fans are really going to enjoy the shift in perspective to Abby, gaining more context about her storyline and going back in time this season. I’m very excited for the fans to see it,” Dever added.

A significant change for season 2 is happening behind the scenes, as creator Neil Druckmann has stepped back from day-to-day involvement (though he remains an executive producer), along with co-writer Halley Gross from The Last of Us Part 2.

“It was right when we were about to start the writers’ room for season 3,” Druckmann explained regarding his decision. “I looked at what’s in front of me, what the next season might look like, and with all the various Last of Us projects I’m working on – not just the show – and with all the games I’m involved in, the biggest one that takes up most of my time is Intergalactic: The Heretic Profit, our next big IP for Naughty Dog and PlayStation. It felt like I could better serve all of my responsibilities if I stayed at a higher level.”

As of now, The Last of Us season 3 does not have a release date.
