Kalshi to Restrict Politicians and Athletes from Trading in Related Markets

The prediction market platform Kalshi is introducing new measures to prevent political candidates and athletes from trading in their own markets. This initiative aims to block not only political figures from engaging in trades related to their campaigns but also to restrict professional and college athletes, referees, and other personnel from trading in the sports they participate in.

The company emphasizes that their guardrails utilize advanced technology and screening lists, although they acknowledge that no system is foolproof, as determined individuals may still attempt to exploit it. To enhance community involvement, Kalshi is also implementing a whistleblower feature directly on their market page, allowing users to easily report potential violations while reviewing public trading data. This step is designed to proactively align with the guidance from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and various Congressional proposals aimed at preventing insider trading.
