Kathleen Kennedy shares exciting insight about Grogu in the next Star Wars movie.

The anticipation for the upcoming film, *The Mandalorian and Grogu*, featuring the bounty hunter Din Djarin and his adorable companion Grogu, is building up. We’ve already seen a Super Bowl trailer, a teaser with director Martin Scorsese as an alien, and a glimpse of a seriously buff Rotta the Hutt. But fans are eager to know one crucial detail: will Grogu finally speak more than just his usual baby babble in this cinematic adventure?

In a recent chat, Kathleen Kennedy, the former president of Lucasfilm and a legendary producer behind classics like *E.T.* and *The Goonies*, reflected on her time leading the Star Wars franchise as she hands over the reins to the current chief creative officer, Dave Filoni, and the president of Lucasfilm Business, Lynwen Brennan. Her tenure will conclude with *The Mandalorian and Grogu* and next year’s *Star Wars: Starfighter*.

However, the most significant news for Grogu enthusiasts is that he will remain silent in terms of coherent speech during *The Mandalorian and Grogu*. Kennedy confirmed that Grogu will continue to communicate through his signature babble, stating, “[Grogu is] another perfect example of a character that has to emote and you have to feel connected to, and he never speaks a word.” She emphasized that Grogu will not “gain the power of speech” in the film set to release in May.

While it may be disappointing for fans hoping to hear Grogu express his thoughts and feelings more clearly, it’s not entirely unexpected. The Star Wars universe has a rich history of characters who convey emotion through sounds and expressions, like the beloved astromech droid R2-D2 and the iconic grunts of Chewbacca. With a wave of Grogu merchandise launching alongside the film, it makes sense that Lucasfilm is leaning into his charming babbling.

Despite Grogu’s lack of verbal communication, it seems he and Din will still be taking on crime lords and Imperials, which is what truly matters in the grand scheme of their adventures.

*The Mandalorian and Grogu* hits theaters on May 22.
