Kingdom Come 2 Developers Scrapped Feature Due to Complexity and Unusual Design
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s developer, Warhorse, has shared insights about a feature that was ultimately scrapped from the RPG due to its oddity and lack of enjoyment. In a conversation with an outlet, executive producer Martin Klima discussed a system reminiscent of GTA: San Andreas, where the protagonist, Henry, could gain or lose weight based on his food intake. This mechanic would also influence the types of clothing Henry could wear.
In the version of Kingdom Come 2 set to release in February 2025, players can don any clothing they discover. However, this wasn’t always the case. Klima explained that in earlier development phases, “Some NPCs would be fat and some would be thin, and then the clothing they wear would be either too large or too small for you.” Players could consume food to increase their size, allowing them to fit into larger garments, or they could restrict their eating to fit into smaller attire. “When you eat, basically, you would get fatter, and then this clothing you have in your inventory suddenly will fit you, while the clothing you had previously wouldn’t fit you, because now you’re too fat for it. Or you could go on a diet and do the same process in reverse,” Klima elaborated.
Ultimately, the feature was discarded for several reasons. Klima noted, “It was just really too bizarre and too much work and not really that much fun. We felt that the clothing system is quite complex as it is, and it really doesn’t need another layer of complexity.” Kingdom Come 2 is currently available for $30.
