Kojima Productions Addresses Concerns Over Studio’s Status
After the announcement that Sony was parting ways with Hideo Kojima’s Physint, and that the latest project from the Metal Gear Solid mastermind would be heading to Xbox, a wave of speculation emerged regarding the reasons behind the split. Reports indicated that various factors played a role, including missed deadlines, budget issues, and concerns over profitability and exclusivity.
In a conversation with an outlet, Kojima expressed his worries about the future of Kojima Productions, especially in light of the industry’s current climate, where many studios are shutting down and projects are being canceled. He remarked:
> I know there’s a lot of news in the game industry that many studios are closing down, many titles are canceled, and I understand the situation in the industry as a whole. But I thought Physint was okay. That Physint was safe. So I was surprised … If we lose one contract, I thought I might have to cut all the people working on Physint, right? Or our studio could end up collapsing because we’ll run out of cashflow.
Despite the buzz surrounding disappointing sales of Death Stranding and its sequel, along with the loss of Sony’s funding, the company has taken to social media to assert that it is “in a healthy, profitable state.” They also emphasized that their “relationship with PlayStation remains strong.”
