Konami Aims to Establish Silent Hill as an Annual Franchise Following Revival Efforts
Silent Hill is making a comeback, according to series producer Motoi Okamoto, who hints that fans can expect more from the franchise than ever before. In a recent interview, Okamoto shared that players can look forward to at least one new Silent Hill game each year starting in 2026.
“After the launch of Silent Hill 2 in October 2024, we plan to release Silent Hill f in September 2025, putting the series back on track,” Okamoto stated. “Our goal is to deliver about one title annually, including both announced and unannounced projects. While we can’t guarantee this will always be achievable, we’re committed to keeping the excitement around Silent Hill alive.”
Releasing a new game every year is no small feat, but it seems Konami has a roadmap in place for the next couple of years. The company first revealed Silent Hill: Townfall, developed by No Code and published by Annapurna Interactive, during a major Silent Hill event in 2022. Since then, details have been scarce, but a now-removed listing from a major retailer hinted at a March 2026 release.
Additionally, Bloober Team is working on a remake of the original 1999 Silent Hill, styled similarly to the Silent Hill 2 remake. While not much has been disclosed about this project, it has reportedly been in development for several months, and it could potentially be the series’ offering for 2027.
Looking ahead, the quality and direction of Silent Hill remain uncertain. Annual releases can be a mixed bag, as seen with recent entries in other franchises. While some games maintain a loyal following regardless of their campaign quality, Silent Hill doesn’t enjoy the same level of brand resilience. Moreover, Konami’s strategy of collaborating with various studios introduces additional risks compared to a more centralized approach.
The recent successes of the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill f have been well-received, but 2023 also saw the release of Silent Hill: Ascension, an interactive TV show from the creators of The Walking Dead: Last Mile. Despite winning an Emmy, it didn’t resonate with audiences in the same way and is now available for free viewing on Tubi.
