KPop Demon Hunters 2 Announced: Director Promises More to Come

The sequel to KPop Demon Hunters is officially in the works, as confirmed by Netflix. The streaming giant has announced a new multiyear writing and directing partnership with the film’s directors, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, focusing on animation and hinting at the next adventure for our favorite demon slayers, Rumi, Mira, and Zoey.

Kang expressed her pride as a Korean filmmaker, stating, “I feel immense pride that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters. There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”

Appelhans added, “These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”

Dan Lin, chairman of Netflix Film, remarked, “There’s so much more story to tell, and we can’t wait to bring more Huntr/x to fans everywhere.”

Rumors of a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters have been circulating for a while. Industry insiders reported that Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation were eyeing a follow-up shortly after the film’s breakout success last summer, leading Sony to negotiate with Kang and Appelhans for KPop Demon Hunters 2. Given the film’s status as the most popular Netflix movie ever, with 500 million views since its June 2025 debut, it was clear a sequel was on the horizon. Netflix, Sony, and toy manufacturers have been eager to capitalize on its massive success.

Creating a follow-up to this pop culture sensation, which produced a chart-topping soundtrack, earned two Oscar nominations, won a Grammy, and captured the hearts of audiences of all ages, will be a significant challenge. However, it seems Kang, Appelhans, and their team will have the time they need to get it right. While there’s no official release date for the sequel yet, it appears we won’t see it before 2029 at the earliest.

In the meantime, you can keep “Golden” on repeat and catch a live performance of the hit this Sunday at the Oscars, all while enjoying KPop Demon Hunters on Netflix and soon through the Criterion Collection as you wait.
