KPop Demon Hunters has taken the world by storm, racking up 800 million hours of streaming on Netflix, generating significant merchandise sales, and earning two Oscar nominations. However, this immense success might delay the release of KPop Demon Hunters 2 until 2029.

In late 2025, reports indicated that a 2029 release was on Sony’s radar. However, studio heads Kristine Belson and Damien de Froberville recently noted that animated films require a lengthy production process. Belson hinted at this during an interview, playfully indicating that the publication’s timeline was accurate.

When asked if directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans would return for the sequel, Belson mentioned, “There’s been a lot to manage with the award campaign. After all the excitement and celebrations, yes, they will be back in the room together.”

Featuring the voice talents of May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, and Arden Cho, KPop Demon Hunters follows Zoey, Mira, and Rumi, three pop stars whose music sustains the Honmoon, a magical barrier that keeps evil forces at bay. When the Saja Boys, a demonic boy band, threaten to break through, the trio must take a stand to protect their world.

While we may have to wait a few years for the sequel, Belson and De Froberville provided a positive update on the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

“With Spider-Verse, I wondered how they would top [2023’s] Across the Spider-Verse. But as we review the art and design for 2027’s Beyond the Spider-Verse, it’s truly mind-blowing,” De Froberville shared. “What we saw in the last presentation was incredible.”

Additionally, the duo confirmed that writers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who worked on Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse, have remained involved in the development process, despite focusing on a separate feature film for the past two years. “They’ve been sending notes,” De Froberville explained. “They set up their edits right here in the courtyard to stay close to Spider-Verse.”
