KPop Demon Hunters Breaks Netflix Records on Its First Anniversary

KPop Demon Hunters has hit yet another impressive milestone, spending 52 consecutive weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 and smashing the previous record of 20 weeks held by another title.

Since its debut on June 20, 2025, KPop Demon Hunters has become Netflix’s most-watched film ever, racking up over 500 million views. This is quite a feat for an animated feature that was initially deemed too “niche” for a theatrical release by its former distributor. To celebrate its one-year anniversary, Netflix is bringing KPop Demon Hunters back to theaters worldwide. The film previously dominated the domestic box office during a limited sing-along release last August. Although it recently dropped out of Netflix’s top 10 in the U.S., it impressively held its spot for 46 weeks.

The film’s success can be attributed to several factors, including its chart-topping soundtrack, stunning animation from the studio behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and a vibrant cast of characters. It won Academy Awards for Best Original Song (“Golden”) and Best Animated Feature, with “Golden” also snagging a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media, marking a historic win for a K-pop group.

In response to KPop Demon Hunters’ phenomenal success, Netflix has greenlit a sequel and secured a multiyear directing and writing deal with the film’s directors, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. While animated films can take years to produce, fans can look forward to a slew of merchandise aimed at parents, including a new KPop Demon Hunters Lego set, a skincare line with Anua, a Huntr/x-themed Vans collaboration, singing dolls, pop-up merch, Saja Boys accessories, and a special vinyl and CD anniversary edition of the soundtrack.

Additionally, a KPop Demon Hunters Global Concert Tour is in the works, though details are still under wraps. While it may take some time for the series to return in feature-length form, Netflix is clearly committed to keeping the excitement alive.

For those hoping for a live-action adaptation, it looks like that’s not on the horizon.
