KPop Demon Hunters Earns Two Oscar Nominations
It’s an exciting time to be a fan of KPop Demon Hunters, with its stunning animation and addictive storyline continuing to capture attention well into 2026.
Having already snagged two Golden Globes and a Critics Choice Award, it’s no wonder KPop Demon Hunters is in the running for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song with “Golden” at the 98th Academy Awards.
The series follows the all-girl Korean band Huntr/x, featuring members Rumi, Zoey, and Mira. By day, they shine as superstar idols, performing to sold-out crowds, and by night, they harness their music to battle demons trying to invade their world and steal human souls. Their ultimate goal is to restore the Honmoon, a mystical barrier that will permanently separate the human realm from the demon world. However, they encounter challenges when the demons retaliate by forming a boy band called Saja Boys.
Since its debut on Netflix and Spotify in June last year, KPop Demon Hunters has been a hit, and while the initial excitement has mellowed, the franchise still enjoys a dedicated fanbase. Just a few weeks ago, Ejae (Rumi), Rei Ami (Zoey), and Audrey Nuna (Mira), the voices behind Huntr/x, performed a fresh cover of “Golden” on a late-night show.
Before the awards season even kicked off, KPop Demon Hunters was already breaking records, becoming the first all-female group to have a song reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since Destiny’s Child’s “Bootylicious” in August 2001. The film’s captivating animation has also played a significant role in its success, helping it surpass Red Notice to become the most-watched Netflix Original—a remarkable achievement.
In the Best Animated Feature category, KPop Demon Hunters is up against heavyweights like Disney’s Zootopia 2 and Elio. “Golden” is competing with other notable tracks, including Sinners’ “I Lied to You.”
The 98th Academy Awards will air on March 15 at 7 p.m. EDT/4 p.m. PDT. Will Huntr/x emerge victorious once again? We’re eager to see how it all unfolds.
