KPop Demon Hunters’ Huntr/x Unveils ‘How It’s Done’ for McDonald’s, Sparking Fan Discontent
When the vocal talents behind KPop Demon Hunters’ demon-slaying band Huntr/x took the stage for their first live performance, fans of Sony Animation and Netflix’s vibrant animated series were ecstatic. After multiple renditions of “Golden,” anticipation grew for Ejae (Rumi), Audrey Nuna (Mira), and Rei Ami (Zoey) to unveil a new track. They delivered with a dynamic performance of “How It’s Done” as part of the KPop Demon Hunters x McDonald’s collaboration. However, the fan response has been mixed.
Earlier this month, McDonald’s teased the upcoming performance with a post hinting at something significant arriving on April 26. The reveal was a live performance available on the McDonald’s app, coinciding with the announcement that Huntr/x triumphed in the Battle for the Fans, where Rumi, Mira, and Zoey faced off against the Saja Boys in McDonald’s latest promotional campaign.
This live performance was a reward for the fans’ support. While I enjoyed hearing a new song from the trio, some fans expressed their disappointment on social media.
“I feel like something is missing in my life: like Heels, Nails, Blade, Mascara,” commented Reddit user spoofer56. “But it’s so awesome to see a piece of ‘How It’s Done.’”
Others echoed similar sentiments, noting that the performance lacked some of the song’s standout lyrics, comparing it to receiving a burger without a patty instead of the full happy meal.
Several commenters acknowledged the shortened version of “Golden,” but questioned why “How It’s Done” underwent the same treatment, especially since it was an online video on a fast-food app. Some were also let down that, after much anticipation, the performance didn’t quite meet their expectations, suspecting the trio was lip-syncing.
On a brighter note, fans praised Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami for their stylish and cool performance, which is characteristic of a Huntr/x show.
KPop Demon Hunters captured the hearts of viewers with its quirky animation and catchy tunes when it premiered on Netflix last year. It has consistently held a spot in Netflix’s Top 10 charts for nearly a year. Given the ongoing enthusiasm from fans and rumors of a global tour, it wouldn’t be surprising if Huntr/x remains a top contender by the time the sequel gets an official release date.
