KPop Demon Hunters Unveils Original Cartoon Featuring McDonald’s Theme

Fans around the globe are buzzing with anticipation for the release date announcement of the sequel to last year’s most-watched film on Netflix, KPop Demon Hunters. To help ease the wait, a new KPop Demon Hunters cartoon has surfaced online. However, it’s not exactly what fans were hoping for; it’s a commercial promoting a collaboration with McDonald’s, set to launch nationwide in the U.S. on March 31.

Titled “Battle For The Fans,” the commercial features the demon-slaying trio of Rumi, Zoey, and Mira, known as Huntr/x, going head-to-head with their rivals, the demonic Saja Boys. The ad showcases both bands at a group signing event, but instead of signing autographs, they encourage KPop Demon Hunters fans to express their loyalty in a more delicious way—by purchasing one of two new meals inspired by their favorite band.

Fan rivalries are nothing new, and franchises often leverage them to ignite excitement and drive merchandise sales. McDonald’s is tapping into this dynamic with the fictional bands from KPop Demon Hunters, which aligns perfectly with the film’s plot, where Huntr/x harnesses their fans’ love to heal the world. However, their mission is complicated by the arrival of the Saja Boys, a demonic boy band with a sinister appetite for human souls.

The Saja Boys meal is a breakfast-only option, featuring a Spicy Saja McMuffin (a sausage McMuffin with egg and spicy sauce), hash browns, and a small soft drink.

In contrast, the Huntr/x meal offers classic McDonald’s fare, including 10-piece Chicken McNuggets and a medium soft drink. It also includes three limited-time items: Ramyeon McShaker fries seasoned with soy, garlic, sesame, and spice; a sweet-chili Hunter Sauce; and a tangy purple mustard Demon Sauce.

What’s particularly exciting is that fans participating in this fast-food showdown will receive exclusive photocards and a Derpy card with each meal, granting early access to special content for a limited time. While the specifics of this content remain under wraps, fans will need to enter the unique code from the Derpy card into the McDonald’s app by April 26 to unlock the reveal of the winning group from this collaboration.

The two meals vary significantly in terms of their offerings and availability. McDonald’s breakfast menu is typically short-lived, making the Saja Boys’ meal harder to get compared to the more accessible Huntr/x meal. Fans of the demonic band will need to go the extra mile to showcase their loyalty alongside the easily obtainable Huntr/x meal.

For those craving more animated content after enjoying Huntr/x and the Saja Boys, a McDonald’s commercial might not suffice. Nevertheless, with the film’s release still fresh in fans’ minds, the enthusiasm for KPop Demon Hunters shows no signs of waning, keeping excitement alive until the all-important KPop Demon Hunters 2 release date is finally confirmed.
