Kristen Stewart expresses interest in directing a Twilight remake, and fans are here for it!

Twilight enthusiasts, get ready for some exciting news! Kristen Stewart has expressed her desire to remake the Twilight films, and this time, she wants to take on the role of director.

In a recent chat, Stewart enthusiastically stated, “I would love to readapt – yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it, I’m committed.” While she might be joking, the idea of her vision for the iconic vampire saga is certainly intriguing.

This conversation took place on the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, where Stewart was recognized as one of the top 10 directors to watch following her directorial debut with The Chronology of Water. When asked about past projects she might consider remaking, she mentioned that the first Twilight film had been on her mind lately, especially since it aired frequently during the holiday season.

“I love what all of the directors did with the movies, but they were so themselves and weird and kind of like squirrely and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up,” Stewart reflected. “Imagine if we had, like, a huge budget and a bunch of love and support.”

The Twilight film series, based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novels, kicked off in 2008, featuring Stewart as Bella Swan, a teenager who moves to rainy Washington and falls for the vampire Edward Cullen and his adoptive family. The saga spanned five films over five years, chronicling Edward and Bella’s romance until Bella herself becomes a vampire.

If Stewart were to direct her own version, she wouldn’t be stepping on any toes, as each film was directed by a different filmmaker. Catherine Hardwicke directed the first installment, followed by Chris Weitz for New Moon, David Slade for Eclipse, and Bill Condon, who helmed both parts of Breaking Dawn.

The franchise still has a strong following, with a resurgence in popularity over the past few years. The films are set for a theatrical re-release in 2025, and Netflix is adapting Meyer’s latest Twilight novel, Midnight Sun, into an animated series. This new book serves as a companion to the original Twilight, offering Edward’s perspective on the story.
