Larian Confirms All Genitals in Divinity Will Be Handcrafted, No AI Involvement

AI might pose some serious questions about our future, but at least we can breathe easy knowing that Larian has confirmed there won’t be any AI-generated genitals in Divinity.

Before diving into the amusing tweet that sparked this discussion, it’s important to highlight that Larian has been navigating some serious conversations regarding its use of AI in its upcoming title. Initially, they acknowledged using generative AI for concept art and placeholder text, but recently, Swen Vincke clarified that they’ve decided to avoid using AI tools during the concept art phase. However, he did mention that generative AI will still play a role in speeding up the experimentation process.

Now, onto the entertaining exchange between Larian’s technical animation director, Ricardo Ayasta, and a fan named Lulu on Twitter. During a recent AMA, Lulu jokingly suggested that the game’s lizards might feature AI-generated anatomy. This prompted Ayasta to step in and firmly state, “I can guarantee that all the genitals in the game will be manually crafted with love.”

So there you have it—no AI-generated lizard anatomy or any other AI private parts in Divinity, which is both amusing and reassuring. What we can expect from Divinity is another richly immersive RPG from Larian, filled with diverse paths and intricate characters. Although the game was just announced and likely far from release, one silver lining of Larian’s limited use of AI is the hope that Divinity will take less time to develop than Baldur’s Gate 3, which took six years to complete. That’s certainly Vincke’s hope.

Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity’s lead writer has remarked that AI-generated writing is only a “3/10 at best” and doesn’t truly enhance game development.
