Latest Dispatch Update Eases Censorship on Switch, Introducing Jorts and Pixel Blobs

When Dispatch hit the Nintendo Switch in January 2026, players were met with an unexpected twist: large black boxes obscuring elements like butt cracks, Toxic’s free-flying green dong, and even Sonar giving Robert the middle finger. Developer AdHoc Studio is dialing back some of that censorship in a free update and has expressed regret for not being upfront about what Switch players could anticipate at launch.

This update lifts the black boxes and removes censorship on “breasts, butt, and birds” in Dispatch, according to AdHoc. However, Nintendo still mandates censorship for genitalia and explicit content. Toxic will be covered with a pixelated blob, or players can opt for “strategically placed jorts” if they prefer. The audio during Invisigal’s dream sequence will remain muted, but players can choose to keep the black bars if they wish. Additionally, AdHoc is introducing censorship options for Dispatch’s PlayStation 5 and Steam versions for those who want a less risqué experience.

AdHoc acknowledged that they were aware of Nintendo’s censorship requirements during the porting process but were caught off guard to learn that these rules applied universally across all regions, not just select markets.

“Approaching launch and running out of time and resources, we were surprised to learn that our game would require some level of censoring in all regions, not just the few we were already planning for,” AdHoc stated in a community post detailing these changes. “In a tough spot, we decided to use a single Switch build that complied with Nintendo’s strictest regional rating. This led us to deliver a more censored version of Dispatch than Switch players were expecting.

“The censorship itself wasn’t the only issue, though. Those of you who wishlisted, pre-ordered, or bought Dispatch on Switch did so based on what you’d seen in trailers, previews, and reviews from other platforms. The problem was we didn’t make it clear enough, before you spent your money, that the version you were buying was materially different from that game. And for that, we’re truly sorry.”

The free update for Dispatch is now live on Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Windows PC.
