Léa Seydoux from Dune and James Bond joins the cast of an A24 horror film adapting a chilling Edgar Allan Poe tale.

Léa Seydoux is set to join Mikey Madison in the cast of A24’s adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death.

According to reports, Madison will portray twin sisters, while Seydoux will take on the role of “a scheming lady-in-waiting who is conniving her way to the top.”

The film’s plot revolves around “a mad prince who invites the noble class to his castle as a plague ravages the peasantry,” and features “a long-lost twin, hidden among the lower class, who enters the castle and is thrust into a decadent world filled with orgies, opium, power struggles, revenge, and decapitations.”

While the movie is inspired by Poe’s 1842 short story, A24 describes it as “wildly revisionist and darkly comedic.” The original Gothic tale follows Prince Prospero as he seeks refuge from a deadly disease in his abbey, where he hosts a masquerade ball for fellow nobles, only to be confronted by a mysterious figure dressed as a plague victim. This story was previously adapted into a film starring Vincent Price in 1964.

Production is set to begin next month, with Charlie Polinger directing. He made his directorial debut last year with the psychological horror film The Plague, featuring Joel Edgerton.

Seydoux has appeared in films such as Dune: Part Two, No Time to Die, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, while Madison earned an Oscar for her performance in the 2024 comedy-drama Anora.

The Masque of the Red Death currently lacks a release date. Stay tuned for more updates.
