Leaked Trailer Hints at Possible Mass Effect 5 Development
Just a day after the announcement of BioWare’s closure, a compelling trailer has surfaced online, rumored to be for the now-canceled Mass Effect 5. Although its authenticity remains unverified, the trailer hints that the game could have been titled Mass Effect Universe, featuring a new protagonist teaming up with Liara T’Soni from the original trilogy.
The trailer opens with a disclaimer stating it utilizes pre-production assets but is rendered in-engine. It showcases a man clad in the familiar N7 trench coat from previous teasers, meeting an Asari in a bar. He mentions his past in the Alliance military but indicates he’s now involved in a “new line of work,” suggesting some shady dealings. The action escalates as he performs some impressive stunts before the Asari confronts him. Liara then makes her entrance, leading to an intense biotic brawl. The title card appears: Mass Effect Universe.
This leak follows a Reddit post from someone claiming to be an EA employee, stating that BioWare had a trailer ready for release. If accurate, this trailer could have debuted on November 7, known as N7 Day, a date BioWare traditionally uses to celebrate the franchise. It seems EA aimed to close BioWare before this significant day, as revealing anything new about Mass Effect 5 only to shut down the studio would have sparked considerable backlash from fans.
We’ve reached out for comments and will provide updates if we receive any information.
If the trailer is genuine, it may be taken down soon, so catch it while you can:
