Lego Unveils Long-Awaited Super Mario Action Figures for Fans

Six years after the initial launch of Lego Super Mario sets, fans are finally getting what they’ve been waiting for: Super Mario minifigures. On March 10, also known as Mario Day, a teaser was unveiled showcasing Mario, the iconic plumber, emerging from a Warp Pipe in a classic minifigure style, though his head deviates from the typical cylindrical Lego design.

The new line of Lego Super Mario minifigures is set to hit the shelves in 2027, as indicated by the teaser.

So far, the Lego Super Mario figures have mostly been based on the Interactive Lego Mario toys, which depict Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and others in a blocky, squat form that resembles two Super Mario Question Blocks stacked together, rather than the traditional Lego figure shape. Additionally, Lego and Nintendo have collaborated on larger builds, including a brick-built Mario figure that comes with a standard Mario Kart vehicle and a pixel-art rendition of Mario and Yoshi.

These new minifigures open up exciting possibilities for the Lego Super Mario universe. If the leaks from the Bricktap Discord server are to be believed, Mario will be joined by a Luigi minifigure, a “BigFig” Bowser, and a Yoshi minifigure with a removable shell, allowing another minifig to ride on its back. In recent years, Lego has also introduced brick versions of Wario, Captain Toad, Bowser Jr., and Boo, along with numerous classic Super Mario enemies in brick form.

While Lego has previously released minifigure versions of characters from Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda, the introduction of Mario and his friends as minifigures marks a new venture for the toy company.

Earlier today, a new Mario Kart set featuring Luigi and his Mach 8 kart was announced. This deluxe set is now available for pre-order and is set to launch on April 1.
