Lego’s PlayStation Launches This Week

After successfully transforming the Nintendo Entertainment System, Atari 2600, and Sega Genesis into brick form, Lego is now collaborating with PlayStation to unveil a new retro console set. The Lego PlayStation set is set to launch on October 1.

This impressive Lego set, consisting of 1,911 pieces, is crafted to be “near 1:1 scale” and will retail for $179.99. It allows builders to recreate the iconic original PlayStation console and controller using Lego bricks, along with dioramas that pay homage to the early days of PlayStation. One standout feature is the functioning “Open” button located on the front-right corner, which activates the spring-loaded lid to reveal two nostalgic dioramas. Inside, you’ll find a large Lego version of the classic “PS” logo, along with mini dioramas inspired by 1997’s Gran Turismo and 1999’s Ape Escape.

While the Lego PlayStation set has fewer pieces than the Lego Atari 2600 (2,532 pieces) and Lego Nintendo Entertainment System (2,646 pieces), it surpasses the Lego Sega Genesis, which has only 480 pieces. Each of Lego’s video game console sets has included unique extras, such as a retro TV for the Lego NES and various cartridges for the Lego 2600.

The Lego PlayStation set will be available for Lego Insiders on October 1 and for the general public on October 4. It can be purchased directly from Lego’s website.
