Lenovo Launches MacBook Neo Rival in Two Sizes and Seven Color Options

Lenovo has unveiled the IdeaPad Vibe, a productivity laptop designed to compete with the MacBook Neo, featuring a similar starting price but a broader palette of colors. The Vibe will be available in 14- and 15-inch models, with AMD and Qualcomm chip options launching in October and November, respectively. Intel versions, likely utilizing the Wildcat Lake architecture, are expected to arrive later.

While the MacBook Neo offers four color choices, the IdeaPad Vibe boasts an impressive seven: dreamy violet, spicy gold, zen green, chill blue, radiant coral, moody blue, and lowkey gray. Users can even customize their laptops with keycaps in any of these colors, along with the option to purchase separate keycap sets for a personalized touch. Plus, unlike the Neo, the Vibe features a backlit keyboard.

The IdeaPad Vibe builds on the foundation of the IdeaPad Slim, introducing enhancements like an all-metal chassis (with some colors incorporating plastic) and a shift from a barrel plug charger to USB-C. It offers more ports than the MacBook Neo, although they aren’t the fastest available. You’ll find two USB-C and two USB-A ports (all at 5Gbps), an HDMI 1.4 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD card reader. Both the 14- and 15-inch models will come standard with IPS LCD panels, but select colors (unfortunately, just the gray and blue) can be upgraded to a touchscreen OLED.

While Lenovo hasn’t revealed the RAM specifications for the base model, the lack of disclosure hints that it may start with 8GB. The Qualcomm Snapdragon X variant will support up to 24GB of RAM, while the AMD Ryzen AI 400-series model can be configured with up to 32GB of user-upgradeable dual-channel RAM. Additionally, regardless of the chip choice, the Vibe will offer up to 1TB of storage with user-accessible dual-slot SSDs.

Even if the base model starts with 8GB of RAM, the variety of colors, ports, and chip options certainly adds an element of fun and uniqueness. It will be exciting to see how the Vibe measures up against the Neo, especially in terms of color choices and keycap customization.
