Lionsgate Encourages Fans to Dive into More Saw Video Games

Fans have enjoyed over 20 years of the Saw franchise, while John Wick is already marking a decade of action-packed thrills, with a fifth film potentially on the horizon. Saw has established itself as a modern horror classic, branching out into a variety of merchandise, featuring a dedicated house at Halloween Horror Nights, and even spawning a video game in 2009 along with its sequel. Although John Wick may not have the same level of crossover appeal—despite both Wick and Jigsaw’s puppet making appearances in Fortnite—Lionsgate is eager to bring both franchises into the gaming realm for a new audience.

During a recent earnings call, Lionsgate chairman Adam Fogelson highlighted the “increased interest and increased opportunity” for developing new AAA games based on their intellectual properties, specifically mentioning both Wick and Saw. He stated, “Our AAA game opportunities and other gaming opportunities around John Wick and Saw and some others that we’ll be announcing soon, we’re seeing increased interest and increased opportunity, and we remain on schedule. So I think in totality, you are going to see a meaningfully additive financial opportunity coming in the coming years.”

In 2023, Lionsgate acknowledged its exploration of a video game adaptation for John Wick. Lionsgate president Joe Drake noted that the company is “continuing to have those conversations” about transitioning the Keanu Reeves-led franchise into the gaming space, emphasizing the “ton of energy” surrounding the idea of a John Wick video game. While those discussions have yet to yield results, the franchise has expanded through the spin-off film Ballerina and the prequel series The Continental.

As for Saw, the previous games didn’t quite hit the mark, so perhaps the third time will be the charm for Jigsaw and his twisted puzzles and traps. Lionsgate has also attempted to adapt the Blair Witch franchise into a game, which received a similarly lukewarm reception.
