E3 may be a thing of the past, but the competitive spirit of the console wars is back in full swing, thanks to the renewed rivalry between Xbox and PlayStation over exclusive titles. Fortunately, Summer Game Fest and Xbox’s own showcase are here to keep the excitement alive.
Every June, the gaming world comes together to recreate the familiar ritual of cryptic teasers and sky-high expectations, often sprinkled with a few game delays. With Summer Game Fest 2026 and PlayStation’s summer Direct now behind us, it’s time for Xbox to take the spotlight.
The company that once heralded the era of HD gaming, Achievements, and the iconic Gears of War is back, ready to unveil new trailers. Will we witness the debut of a major Xbox exclusive? A surprise sequel? A stealth release? The only certainty is a deep dive into a Gears of War prequel titled E-Day. Some franchises just refuse to fade away.
We’re covering every announcement from the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 live, so stay tuned for all the reveals, trailers, and moments that are sure to spark excitement.
This summer is shaping up to be anything but dull. Halo Studios has finally revealed the long-anticipated release date for Halo: Campaign Evolved during the Xbox Games Showcase. Set to launch on July 28 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, it’s perfectly positioned in a clear release window.
This marks the first Halo title since 2021’s Halo Infinite. As the name suggests, Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake of the single-player story mode from 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved. While it will feature a cooperative campaign, competitive multiplayer will not be included. This game is also the first in the series to utilize Unreal Engine 5, serving as a test for future Halo projects currently in the works.
In a surprise twist, Gears of War: E-Day is set to launch sooner than anticipated, and it will be an Xbox console exclusive. Although it will receive its own dedicated Direct after the Xbox Games Showcase, E-Day kicked off the showcase with an impressive extended gameplay segment. The Coalition and Xbox Games Studios confirmed that it will be released on October 6, 2026.
The trailer reinforced that this is a prequel to the original Gears of War, which was remastered in 2025. It follows Marcus and Dom from the original trilogy as they navigate the chaos of the Locust Horde’s initial attack on Emergence Day. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, this installment is expected to be more linear compared to Gears 5.
Developer Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios also provided a fresh look at Fable during the showcase, introducing fans to another character from the game. The trailer concluded with an exciting announcement: Fable will launch on February 23, 2027.
This new trailer takes a darker tone than previous glimpses of the game. Hayley Atwell (known for her roles in Agent Carter and Mission Impossible) plays a villain who believes she can be Albion’s true hero. Fable is a reboot of the beloved open-world RPG franchise, where your choices shape the narrative and the world of Albion.
Bloober Team, known for Silent Hill 2 and Cronos: The New Dawn, is venturing into new territory with Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a psychological thriller set in the Star Trek universe.
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier features a familiar face for fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation: Ro Laren, the Bajoran officer who often found herself at odds with Starfleet. Ro will be portrayed by the original actress, Michelle Forbes.
Microsoft’s annual Xbox Games Showcase streams live on June 7, promising first looks at gameplay and major news on upcoming titles from Xbox Game Studios and third-party partners, ranging from blockbuster franchises to soon-to-be indie hits. This event will be followed by a deep dive into Gears of War: E-Day, the latest entry from The Coalition.
This showcase will also mark the first under the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Asha Sharma, who took over from the recently retired Phil Spencer in February. However, don’t expect any significant updates on the next-gen Xbox, Project Helix, as chief content officer Matt Booty has indicated that it won’t have a major presence at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026.
