Logan Paul Puts His Rare Pikachu Card Up for Auction with a High Price Tag

There are a few certainties in life: death, taxes, and the undeniable fact that rare Pokémon cards can outshine nearly any collectible. WWE star and social media personality Logan Paul is putting his prized PSA 10 Pikachu Illustrator card up for auction. Initially listed at $1.3 million on Goldin Auctions, the bidding has already soared to $1.45 million with 40 days still left on the clock. The auction listing highlights the card’s rarity, stating, “The Pokémon craze was in full swing in 1997. With blockbuster Game Boy games, a primetime animated series, and now record-setting TCG, Japan was abuzz with excitement about what was in store for Pokémon.” It goes on to explain that in November 1997, a contest called the “Pokémon Card Game Illust Artist Contest” invited fans to create their own Pokémon card. The winners, announced in the following January issue of CoroCoro Comic, received 20 Pokémon cards featuring their illustrations, along with one copy of the coveted Pikachu Illustrator card.

Paul shared on Twitter that the auction winner will also receive a custom chain he had made, valued at $75,000, and he plans to personally deliver it. “In 1998, only 39 copies of this card—designed by Atsuko Nishida, the original creator of Pikachu—were awarded to winners of a Pokémon illustration contest. Twenty-four years later, I wore it to my WrestleMania debut after it set a Guinness World Record for the most expensive Pokémon card ever sold—the only perfect PSA 10 Pikachu Illustrator in existence. I’m selling it with the $75,000 custom Pokémon chain, and I’ll hand-deliver it to the buyer. Along with other epic TCG lots, this will be the greatest Pokémon auction of our generation.” As Pokémon celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, the enthusiasm among collectors remains strong, despite a rise in thefts targeting Pokémon cards. Over the past couple of years, certain cards have seen significant value increases—some by over $100. Paul originally purchased the card for more than $5 million, so it will be intriguing to see if he can turn a profit.
