Logitech’s Mouse Glitch Linked to Expired Certificate Issue

If you’re a macOS user dealing with some odd issues with your Logitech mouse, there’s good news: Logitech has rolled out a fix. This comes after several users on Reddit reported that Logi Options Plus—the app essential for managing and customizing Logitech devices—had stopped functioning, which hindered their ability to use personalized scrolling, button actions, and gestures.

One user mentioned that the scrolling directions and additional buttons on their Logitech mouse “were not working as I intended,” and that the Logi Options Plus app got stuck in a boot loop when they tried to open it to troubleshoot. Logitech has acknowledged the problem and noted that its G Hub app, which serves a similar purpose for gaming devices under the Logitech G brand, was also impacted.

According to Logitech’s support page, the issue stemmed from “an expired certificate” necessary for the apps to operate. Windows users were not affected, as the problem was specific to Mac users due to macOS’s security measures that block certain applications from running without a valid Developer ID certificate—an issue that has previously affected other apps.

A patch has been released to resolve the issue, but it requires manual installation since the expired certificate also impacted the in-app updater. Logitech assures that device settings, customizations, and profiles for affected users will remain intact after applying the patch. This fix is compatible with devices running macOS 26 Tahoe, macOS 15 Sequoia, macOS 14 Sonoma, and macOS 13 Ventura, with a solution for older macOS versions expected to arrive later.

“We dropped the ball here. This is an inexcusable mistake,” said a Logitech spokesperson in response to user feedback on Reddit. “We’re extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
