Loot Routes Revamped: Major Changes in Arc Raiders Update

The patch notes for the Cold Snap update in Arc Raiders have arrived, and there’s a lot to unpack. This update introduces a snowy map condition, a new event, fresh projects, cosmetics, and quests, along with a plethora of balance changes and bug fixes that are sure to please many players.

One of the most significant changes for high-level players is the dynamic spawning of security lockers across all maps, replacing their previous static locations. These lockers, which require the Security Breach skill to open—gained by investing at least 36 skill points into the survival skill tree—were initially seen as overpowered. Although they received a loot pool nerf, the skill remained a popular choice. Now, with lockers appearing in different spots each round, raiders will need to adapt their strategies. While this disrupts established loot routes, it also encourages players to explore the map more thoroughly instead of focusing narrowly on specific areas.

In other notable updates, the Aphelion blueprint is now available on Stella Montis, making it easier to obtain, though crafting the weapon still requires a Matriarch Reactor. Additionally, players who wish they had chosen a different skill tree can now reset their entire skill tree for a cost of 2,000 per skill point spent. While you can’t reset individual skills, this option allows for a fresh start at a reasonable price.

Fans of the Locked Gate map condition will be pleased to know it has made a return with the Cold Snap update. Although it hasn’t appeared in-game yet, it seems likely that the developers have addressed the missing loot issue that plagued its previous appearance.

PC players have reason to celebrate as well, with the introduction of a toggle for aiming down sights, enhancing accessibility for those who prefer this method. However, if you’ve been hoping for a buff to the Rattler, you might be disappointed; it still appears to be one of the weakest guns in the game, though it now boasts a magazine capacity of 12 bullets instead of 10.

These highlights only scratch the surface of this extensive patch, so be sure to dive into the full list of changes before heading back into the action. Also, keep in mind how Arc Raiders’ matchmaking considers your playstyle—if you’re consistently encountering hostile players, it might be time to reassess your approach.
