Lords of the Fallen 2 pushed to 2027 to avoid crowded fall 2026 release schedule.
The latter half of 2026 is gearing up to be an incredibly packed period for game launches. The highlight is undoubtedly Grand Theft Auto 6, set to release on November 19. To steer clear of that crowded month, several titles have shifted their release dates to earlier months like September and October. However, Lords of the Fallen 2 won’t be among them, as it has been pushed back from its original fall 2026 launch.
Marek Tymiński, CEO of CI Games, announced on X that Lords of the Fallen 2 is now scheduled for a Q1 2027 release. The team has discovered significant opportunities to enhance and refine the overall experience, and this delay will allow them to deliver the highest quality possible at launch. Tymiński also mentioned that this strategic move will help the game stand out amidst the influx of titles vying for attention this fall, increasing its chances of being noticed.
Lords of the Fallen 2 serves as a sequel to the 2023 title (not to be confused with the 2014 game of the same name). Like its predecessor, it’s a Soulslike that emphasizes challenging combat. This installment is set to be a standalone sequel, occurring 100 years after the original.
The first Lords of the Fallen was a decent entry in the genre, described as “an exhausting technical achievement” in reviews. A 2.0 update in 2025 brought some enhancements, and a full sequel has the potential to build on that foundation. However, the development of Lords of the Fallen 2 has faced some controversy, particularly regarding its female armor designs, which critics have labeled as regressive. CI Games has referred to these designs, featuring female characters with minimal coverage, as “provocative.”
As Tymiński points out, delays don’t always indicate development issues. When developers take the necessary time to improve their products, it benefits both them and the players. For instance, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is also expected to gain from its delay into 2027. If you were anticipating Lords of the Fallen 2 this fall, there are still plenty of other games to look forward to, including Blood of the Dawnwalker (Sept. 3), Marvel’s Wolverine (Sept. 15), Control Resonant (Sept. 24), Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve (Oct. 2), Final Fantasy Resonance (Oct. 22), and Grand Theft Auto 6 on Nov. 19, among many others.
In the meantime, Tymiński reassures fans that the team is “fully energized by the strong response to our recent reveals and is deeply focused on delivering a standout dark fantasy action RPG and a worthy successor to the Lords of the Fallen franchise.”
Lords of the Fallen 2 is set to launch in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The studio emphasizes that the female armor designs were developed with input from fans.
