Magic is bringing back a $30 ninja classic featuring artwork by TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman.

Wizards of the Coast has officially marked February 17 as “Turtle Tuesday,” unveiling the exciting crossover set Magic: The Gathering – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, along with the surprise reveal of the Secret Lair Totally TubuLair Superdrop.

As is typical with Secret Lairs, the eye-catching artwork is just part of the appeal. Hidden beneath the vibrant nostalgia and retro vibes are some genuinely valuable reprints, including a Ninja staple worth nearly $30 that hasn’t been relevant for about a decade. For Commander enthusiasts, this alone might make the purchase worthwhile. Additionally, the involvement of TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman in illustrating one of the Drops adds extra allure. Fans of Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo will find one drop here essential. Each Drop is available in non-foil for $29.99 and foil for $39.99, with various bundle options to choose from. Let’s dive into what each Drop has in store.

Note: The prices listed next to each card below reflect the current market value for the cheapest versions of that particular card.

VHS Villains may not boast strong reprint value, as you could acquire all the singles for less than the cost of this Drop. However, the nostalgic art reminiscent of retro VHS covers is a highlight. Species Specialist stands out as the best card here, fitting perfectly in typal decks focused on a single creature type, allowing you to draw a card whenever a creature of that type dies, whether it’s yours or your opponent’s. Higure, the Still Wind holds significant value in ninja decks, enabling you to pull a ninja from your deck into your hand if it deals combat damage to a player.

Delver of Secrets // Insectile Aberration captures the essence of TMNT’s Baxter Stockman but lacks playability outside of Pauper (where it was once a Legacy staple). Similarly, Rampaging Baloths feels like a nod to Bebop and Rocksteady with its strong landfall ability generating tokens, though its six-mana cost is a bit steep. Triskelion, while fitting for Krang’s Android, feels somewhat uninspired.

Pirated Copy is the standout reprint in The Mighty Mutanimals, allowing you to copy any creature on the battlefield, even if it’s an unusual choice for Slash. Triumph of the Hordes is a close second in value, providing all your creatures with +1/+1, trample, and infect for just four mana.

Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar is an excellent partner Commander, enabling your Commanders to deal combat damage to all opponents. Hardened Scales is a must-have in any green deck focused on +1/+1 counters. Surprisingly, Deepglow Skate, which doubles the number of counters on any permanent, is the lowest value card in this Drop. Overall, this is definitely the most valuable Drop in the collection.

If there’s one entry in this Superdrop that nails the flavor, it’s The Last Ronin, inspired by the acclaimed comic miniseries from IDW Publishing. The highlight here is Mental Misstep, a staple that has long hovered just below the double-digit price range. Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni as Splinter, Vengeful Sensei might be the most creative pairing in the entire Superdrop, allowing you to steal cards from an opponent’s graveyard and regenerate for just two mana.

Chord of Calling remains a versatile way to tutor any creature onto the battlefield (with the right mana). Settle the Wreckage can serve as a game-winning play under the right conditions. Anger provides one of the best and simplest ways to grant all your creatures haste. This Drop is likely the most flavorful of the bunch.

The Turtles’ co-creator lends his artistic flair to this Drop, which features both a full-color version and a black-and-white ink variant. Sakashima’s Student is the real gem here — the most valuable card in the entire Superdrop. It offers one of the most efficient clone effects in Commander, entering the battlefield for just two mana as a copy of the best creature in play and avoiding counterspells. Plus, it retains its Ninja type, maintaining typal synergies while doubling down on whatever powerful creature it mimics.

Throat Slitter provides solid removal in ninja decks, Guttersnipe remains a budget-friendly all-star in spell-slinger decks, and Loxodon Gatekeeper is a reliable way to frustrate opponents in your pod.

The legendary creator of Usagi Yojimbo brings a unique artistic style to this Drop, with Master of Ceremonies as the headliner. Few cards are as entertaining in Commander pods, as it forces all opponents to make choices that ultimately benefit you while shifting the power dynamics at the table.

Sunforger continues to be a powerful piece of red-white equipment, allowing you to pull instants from your deck and cast them almost for free. Second Harvest serves as a potent finisher in any token-heavy deck. Felidar Retreat provides a significant boost for white cat decks and even more for +1/+1 counter strategies. Despite being the least expensive card here, Baylen, the Haymaker is a fun Commander for token-centric decks.

The Totally TubuLair Superdrop is set to launch on March 2, 2026.
