Magic: The Gathering Unveils 2027 Release Dates for Six Upcoming Sets, Featuring Universes Beyond

Magic: The Gathering has an exciting lineup ahead, with three more sets set to drop in 2026. At MagiCon: Amsterdam, the team behind the game unveiled a comprehensive schedule for 2027, featuring six new sets and four MagicCon events. This calendar includes release dates for three in-universe expansions and three Universes Beyond sets, a slight reduction from the four planned for 2026. However, details about the new Universes Beyond sets remain under wraps, and we may have to wait until MagicCon: Atlanta in fall 2026 for more information. Here’s a detailed look at the 2027 Magic: The Gathering release schedule.

While specifics are limited, we do know the release dates for the Universes Beyond sets:

The themes of these sets are still a mystery, but it’s highly likely that one will continue the Marvel crossover trend, possibly featuring X-Men or Guardians of the Galaxy. Beyond that, the possibilities are wide open.

Now, let’s dive into the calendar:

We have more concrete details about the upcoming in-universe (or multiverse) sets for 2027.

Kicking off the year on February 5 is Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, an entirely new underwater world. While information is sparse, we can expect a rich array of merfolk.

Next, on June 4, Magic returns to Kamigawa, but with a twist. This Japan-inspired plane will face an invasion from the monster-filled realm of Ikoria, leading to epic battles between colossal creatures and mecha pilots. Think of it as Pacific Rim meets Magic, titled Kamigawa: Titanbreach.

Finally, on October 1, we’ll see Zhalfir, the first set centered on this Wakanda-like plane introduced in the 2023 crossover set, March of the Machines. Zhalfir is also home to the legendary hero Teferi, so we might finally learn what he’s been up to.
