Magic Unveils Complete Commander Decklist for Hatsune Miku, Featuring a $60 Fan-Favorite Card
Hatsune Miku is making her grand return to Magic: The Gathering, this time bringing along a complete Commander deck. Crafted by Carmen Klomparens, this marks the debut of the Universes Beyond Secret Lair Commander Deck, featuring a ready-to-play Selesnya (green-white) deck that emphasizes life gain and token generation, set to release on August 10.
At the forefront of the deck is Miku, Song of the People, a fresh take on Trostani, Selesnya’s Voice, illustrated by KEI, the original artist behind Hatsune Miku’s software. Mechanically, she embodies a classic Selesnya strategy: flooding the battlefield with creatures, gaining life, and transforming that advantage into a formidable army that opponents will struggle to ignore.
The deck is packed with some of Commander’s most effective life-gain synergies. Archangel of Thune turns each life gain into +1/+1 counters for your entire team, while Voice of the Blessed evolves into a serious threat. Crested Sunmare provides indestructible horses, Mirari’s Wake boosts mana and creature size, and Aetherflux Reservoir converts your life total into a game-ending strike. Notably, Archangel of Thune is a standout card, typically valued around $60 on the resale market, unless you opt for the Marvel reprint.
In essence, this deck offers a uniquely Miku experience in Magic. Everyone’s invited to the show, the audience keeps growing, and at some point, someone’s bound to get hit by a laser. A personal favorite of mine is Phyrexian Processor—what’s a sinister Phyrexian machine doing at a Miku concert? Who knows, but prepare to create some massive tokens.
The release will feature 14 new borderless art treatments from Japanese artists, showcasing Miku in various outfits, performances, and quieter moments. Alongside KEI, the lineup includes popular artists like 八三/Hassan and さいとうなおき/Naoki Saito. Even the basic lands enhance the visual appeal, with borderless plains and forests depicting Miku singing under clear skies and surrounded by wildlife.

Price: $149.99
This deck will also test a significant shift in the Secret Lair sales model. Following the controversy surrounding the Goblin Storm Secret Lair deck, adjustments are being made for this Miku release, introducing a 24-hour limited order window. Orders placed from August 10 at 9 a.m. PT to August 11 at 8:59 a.m. PT will be fulfilled. A limited quantity will be available for immediate shipping, while additional orders during this window are expected to ship in May 2027 for North America and June 2027 for the EU/UK.
This new policy will apply to all products designed for immediate play, including Commander decks and specialty items like the Secret Lair Dandân Deck, targeting high demand and out-of-the-box playability. “We’re trying something kind of new here that harkens back to the early days of Secret Lair to meet demand where we think it will be highest—on fully playable products,” said Matthew Hodgins, the new Secret Lair director. If successful, similar Commander decks and specialty releases may eventually have a dedicated storefront.
This is exciting news for both Miku enthusiasts and Magic: The Gathering players, as it could lead to better access to sought-after Secret Lair products in the future.
The Secret Lair Commander Deck: Hatsune Miku launches on August 10 at 9 a.m. PT, exclusively on MagicSecretLair.com.
