Magic’s K-Pop Demon Hunters Secret Lair Returns for an Encore

Sony Animation’s upcoming 2025 film, KPop Demon Hunters, has taken the cultural landscape by storm, shattering Netflix’s records for original content. The narrative follows the K-pop group Huntr/x as they harness their music to fend off demonic threats, leading to a wave of merchandise tie-ins, including Lego sets and themed meals, which began appearing in 2026.

The latest exciting collaboration comes from Magic: The Gathering, which is set to feature a KPop Demon Hunters crossover in its Secret Lair Corn Maze Superdrop on October 12. Although the cards haven’t launched yet, Magic is already gearing up for more. An announcement from the MTG Secret Lair account on October 4 hinted at future releases, stating, “Secret Lair x KPop Demon Hunters: How It’s Done enters the Corn Maze Superdrop on October 12. The crowd’s already chanting for more. Good thing we’ve got more planned! Stay tuned.”

This is thrilling news, especially since the initial drop only scratched the surface of what makes KPop Demon Hunters so engaging. The title “How It’s Done” references the film’s opening track, suggesting that additional drops could spotlight other popular songs. For instance, “Golden” might highlight multicolor cards, “Takedown” could focus on aggressive strategies, and “Your Idol” might showcase the Saja Boys alongside a host of demons.

The track “How It’s Done” features a humorous take on Swan Song with the quirky demon bird Sussie, yet it’s a missed opportunity that her goofy companion Derpy hasn’t been represented in card form. Magic could easily transform Jinu’s pets into new iterations of Esior, Wardwing Familiar and Falthis, Shadowcat Familiar. Given the members of Huntr/x’s love for snacking, it would also be fun to see food tokens similar to the charming ones created for The Hobbit.

KPop Demon Hunters has so much potential that it truly deserves its own Commander deck, akin to the Hatsune Miku Secret Lair deck released in August. Rumi could be reimagined as a new version of Narci, Fable Singer, reflecting her demonic lineage and her mission to protect the world through the Golden Honmoon, represented in her Abzan (white-black-green) color identity and abilities tied to resolving Sagas.

Magic’s design team has expressed a desire to focus more on fantasy themes in their licensed products, like Universes Beyond and Secret Lair, following some fan criticism regarding previous sets based on Marvel superheroes and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. However, with KPop Demon Hunters being a modern fantasy gem with a dedicated fanbase, it stands as an ideal crossover that is likely to inspire Hasbro to continue producing more exciting releases.
