Major Anime Announcements from MAPPA’s 15th Anniversary Celebration
If you thought Anime Expo 2026 would be the highlight of the summer for anime fans, think again. On June 19, the renowned animation studio MAPPA celebrated its 15th anniversary with a livestream event that had fans buzzing with excitement. Known for producing some of the most popular anime, MAPPA, based in Nagano, Tokyo, delivered a slew of thrilling announcements.
Kicking things off, MAPPA unveiled a new trailer for the highly anticipated Assassins Arc of Chainsaw Man, featuring a lineup of wild killers hunting down Denji. While a release date and format (TV season or movie) remain under wraps, fans were treated to a surprise appearance by Kobeni’s car.
In addition, MAPPA announced a gacha-focused mobile game based on the series, complete with a trailer showcasing its opening movie set to the energetic track “All the lynch!!! All the mince!!” by Maximum the Hormone.
Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen also received exciting updates just months after the conclusion of season 3. MAPPA revealed a trailer for The Culling Game Arc Part 2, confirming that the next season is “diligently in production.” The teaser featured what appeared to be polished animation, hinting that the next installment might arrive sooner than expected. The event also included a special segment called “JuJu talk special edition,” featuring voice actors Junya Enoki (Yuji Itadori) and Megumi Ogata (Yuta Okkotsu).
For those who enjoy MAPPA’s more eccentric offerings, Dorohedoro fans can rejoice as the studio confirmed that season 3 is in the works following the much-anticipated second season that premiered in April. The teaser trailer excitedly announces, “SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT! NIKAIDO AWAKENS. THE CROSS-EYE BOSS’ FACE PEELS OFF. SAJI BECOMES A PIE.” Definitely intriguing news!
Another beloved series from MAPPA is the remake of Ranma 1/2, based on Rumiko Takahashi’s classic manga. Season 3 is set to premiere in October, and the special stream event showcased a new trailer highlighting Ranma’s rivalry with Ryoga over their shared affection for Akane. As with previous seasons, it will be available exclusively on Netflix.
But that’s not all MAPPA has lined up for Netflix. They announced two new series: Jimoto Saiko!, a darkly comedic tale about a small delinquent girl navigating her chaotic hometown, and Beat & Motion, a showbiz drama following Tatsuhiko, a young man who has given up on his anime dreams, and Nico, an indie musician who reignites his passion. Both series are based on popular manga and are set to debut in 2027.
Another new series, Fall in Love, You False Angels, was also revealed, centering on a seemingly perfect student president and her equally pristine vice president, both hiding dark secrets. Its trailer announced a 2027 release.
The anniversary event also featured a special talk on Attack on Titan Final Season, with director Yuichiro Hayashi and voice actor Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa Ackerman) reflecting on the impact of this pivotal season in anime history.
Additionally, there was an extended segment dedicated to the sports drama Oblivion Battery, which will air its second season in 2027.
To cap off the celebration, a special anniversary movie titled My Life premiered, showcasing the studio’s journey and featuring the song “My Life” performed by the Tokyo-based band PEOPLE 1.
MAPPA continues to solidify its status as a powerhouse in the anime industry. Despite past controversies regarding labor conditions, the studio has successfully navigated recent years without similar issues, all while delivering some of the most impressive animated action scenes of 2025. As the anime landscape evolves, studios like MAPPA bear the responsibility of not only creating meaningful art but also ensuring that the animators and all contributors benefit from the medium’s growing popularity.
