Major Nier remaster mod brings back the game’s alternate hero.

When Nier first launched in 2010, it came in two distinct versions. The first, Replicant, was exclusive to the PlayStation 3 in Japan and featured a young protagonist known as Brother Nier. The Gestalt version, released on Xbox 360 in Japan, showcased an older character called Father Nier. Despite the different protagonists, the core story and gameplay remained unchanged, with the main difference being the nature of the relationship between the protagonist and Yonah, who was seen as either a sister or daughter.

Internationally, only the Gestalt version made its way to players. However, with the 2021 remaster, Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139, Brother Nier became the sole playable character. Thanks to a skilled modder, the gruff Father Nier has made a triumphant return in this remaster. On July 30, modder Elevna launched version 1.0 of Nier Gestalt ver.1.22474487139, which reintroduces Father Nier into the remastered experience.

Elevna’s mod does more than just swap out character models; it meticulously recreates the Gestalt experience. This includes nearly all of Father Nier’s alternate outfits and custom character models tailored for various story and gameplay segments throughout the game. Additionally, the original voice-over from the Gestalt version has been ported into Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139.

The mod also includes adjustments to ensure Father Nier fits seamlessly into the remaster’s exclusive content. This involves reworked voice lines for the new Route E. The World of Recycled Vessel DLC, which comes with the remaster, has been adapted to feature Father Nier as the protagonist instead of Brother Nier. This is the only instance of Father Nier appearing in the 2021 release, and to balance this, the mod allows Brother Nier to be playable during the World of Recycled Vessel.

For PC gamers eager to experience Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139 in this fresh way, the mod is available for free download on NexusMods.
